Our lab works on understanding the role of immune mechanisms with respect to diseases of the glial cells. The logo represents the fundamental role played by inflammation and immunity, as an integral part of the cellular interactions.

The art of origami produces complex yet functional patterns; The pinwheel represents the various mediators of immune mechanisms coming together in order to form complex multimeric protein structures like inflammasomes. Inflammasomes play a significant role as a cell-specific sensor. Interestingly, recent studies have portrayed them to possess a dual nature as either a friend or a foe, depending on the microenvironment of the cells. This binary nature can be seen as the Yin-Yang required to maintain homeostasis. Further, upon tweaking them we can try to understand the importance of these complexes, their interactions and the effect of their disbalance, on the disease pathophysiology.
